3. The Famous 'Postage Stamp' Hole

Royal Troon is home to the shortest hole in Open Championship golf, the 8th hole, known as the "Postage Stamp." Measuring just 123 yards, this par-3 is notorious for its difficulty and is a favorite among both players and spectators. The hole's small, well-guarded green makes it a true test of precision and nerves. Over the years, it has been the scene of both triumphs and disasters, contributing to its legendary status. The "Postage Stamp" remains one of the most talked-about holes in golf, embodying the spirit of challenge and excitement.

The front nine at Royal Troon is considered one of the most challenging in golf. Players face strong coastal winds and tricky bunkers, making every shot a test of skill and strategy. The first nine holes are designed to take full advantage of the natural terrain, offering breathtaking views and formidable obstacles. The difficulty of the front nine often sets the tone for the rest of the round, requiring players to be at their best from the start. This combination of beauty and challenge is a hallmark of Royal Troon's design, drawing golfers who seek a true test of their abilities.

6. Is that a house?!

Black Rock House, situated in the middle of Royal Troon Golf Club, is a unique two-family home known as a semi-villa, offering an unparalleled vantage point for watching The Open Championship. Located at 14 and 16 Crosbie Road, this house is surrounded by key course features such as the second green, third hole tee, 16th green, and both the 17th and 18th tees. The house's history predates the golf course, with buildings on the site for over 250 years, originally serving as Black Rock Cottages. Its name derives from the nearby black rocks used for docking boats. Over the years, it has housed notable residents like Hollywood star Greer Garson and remains an integral part of the course, often utilized for corporate hospitality during championships. Despite its prime location, Royal Troon Golf Club has never purchased the house, allowing it to retain its iconic status within the golfing world.
